Proparco

PROPARCO is a development finance institution specialising in capital investment, loans and guarantees. The core activity of the company is oriented towards Sustainable Development and achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). PROPARCO is developing an entire range of long term financial instruments (equity, loans and guarantees) that will go to promote the supply of basic services for the populations of the poorest countries. FGEF

The FGEF (French Global Environment Fund) is a bilateral fund which was set up in 1994 by the French government following the Rio Summit. Its aim is to promote protection of the global environment in developing and transitional countries. The FGEF was established in order to promote global environment through projects for economic and social development. It subsidises projects in the following areas to help preserve the main factors of global equilibrium: biodiversity, climate change, international waters, desertification and land degradation, persistent organic pollutants (POPs), the stratospheric ozone layer. AFD in numbers

AFD has 64 agencies and offices worldwide, including 9 in the French Overseas Territories.  There are 1 412 employees.  AFD’s financial commitments to developing countries increased by 25% between 2007 and 2008 to reach €3.5 billion in 2008.

In 2008, Africa was the main beneficiary, receiving 41% of funding commitments. The Mediterranean Basin countries received 26% of commitments and Asian countries received 25%. Additionally, AFD’s commitments to the French Overseas Territories reached €1 billion.
